The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Day, a day to celebrate the ensuring of a sustainable Indian ocean for future generations, was celebrated at The Galle Face Green Area on the 10th of March, 2024 with the presence of his excellency, the President of Sri Lanka and the Minister of Environment. Sri Lanka as the hosting Chairmanship country of the Indian Ocean Rim Association, made it their priority to make this day a success.
The South Asia Co-operative Programme (SACEP) and Project Management Unit of PLEASE Project together with UNOPS had executed an educational stall demonstrating various educational materials to project the importance of ocean sustainability, especially to the school children. Numerous quiz activities were carried out for the much delight of the children present, and the winners were awarded with eye-catching gifts.
The stall was graced by the Director General of SACEP, Ms. Rokeya Khaton, Mr. Prabath Chandrakeerthi, Secretary - Ministry of Environment and the stall was in fact deemed a huge success.
